Our primary goal was to realize a glider with best performance within an aspect ratio of 7. Therefore, the PURE 2 is a complete 2-line conceptual construction. Just the C-lines are collected by an additional main line (incorporating a 2-line construction with 3 line-levels). With this design development, the advantages are increased acceleration ability and reduced collapse behaviour, resulting in more overall balanced flying characteristics.Outstanding features of the PURE 2 are the exceptional performance, perfect glide in head-wind, increased climb rate in moving air and a flatter polar curve – especially under acceleration. You’ll now find greater stability over the entire speed range.
The handling is what you would find to be synonymous with AirDesign – agile and variable. Whether you choose to turn flat, or tight and steep, the PURE 2 is at home with you every step of the way, and responds exceptionally to even the most gentle of pilot inputs.
The PURE 2 features a more pronounced shark-nose, double 3D-cut top-sail with flat seams and a single 3D-cut bottom-sail.A special 2-line aerofoil in combination with a detailed and ingenious inner construction (with v-ribs, straps and cross supports) ensures maximum stability.
VORTEX HOLES® at the tips and outside cell trailing edges work to diffuse vortex drag by releasing redundant pressure, which is further improving performance.
A redeveloped line layout (in some cases spanning over 4 cells without line attachment points) greatly reduces line consumption.
Polyamide rods are strategically positioned at A and B sections, with sufficient spacing to allow you to pack more ergonomically.
Comfortable and precise B-steering handles.
The PURE 2 is aimed at competition level or a more experienced cross country pilot.
Tips and Tricks
“Big Ears” with B-Line
By pulling down the most outer B-line the tips make a partial B-stall, which gives a very similar result compared to doing it with the A-lines. To release, just put the B-lines up again. The advantage by doing so is that the ears are more stable and have no tendency to shake.
How would you compare the PURE 2 to the original PURE?
It is first important to recognize how the EN-D class has progressed in the last 3 years. Pilot demands are now higher, and we have been mindful to shift the boundaries of performance, whilst evolving stability for pilots already flying this class of glider.
With respect to the new PURE 2, performance has increased dramatically.
The overall performance of two-line concept gliders is now in no way comparable to conventional gliders or previous 3 line performance gliders. The PURE 2 showcases greater stability and further improves on the original PURE’s collapse resistant behaviour.
When is a 2-liner a 2-liner, a 2.5 or 3-liner?
If you are only looking at the number of line levels, the categorisation of a 3-liner would be correct, but in case of the PURE2 is something completely different and stands out on it’s own.
The PURE2 is a complete 2-line construction. Rearward positioned line-tabs, 2-line aerofoil, extended distance between attachment points, inner-structures…
As a result, it wouldn’t be appropriate to place the PURE2 in the same box as conventional 3-liners. That’s why we call it as a 2-line construction with 3 individual line levels. By incorporating two systems in one, you obtain the best of both worlds.
The fact that there is a C-Line attachment point in the middle of the wing does not change this fact. Furthermore, this level of lines adds more possibilities for tuning the wing best for accelerated flight, and gives a better control for the respective EN test manoeuvres.
The B-Line steering works effortlessly because it is real B-line control, and the handle is neatly integrated into the design of the B-riser.
The PURE2 concept implements the transfer of technology and performance from a competition class style construction into the EN-D class with an innovative line layout and all state-of-the-art design features.
How can I learn more about the current EN-D certification classification process?
Most test manoeuvres give a very good impression about a glider’s behaviour, but in regard to collapses within the EN-D category, this might not be the case. The PURE 2 has achieved its certification via the implementation of folding lines. Similar to other 2-line performance gliders, the PURE 2 is not collapsible with the A-lines. Reactions which were initiated by the folding lines may not have any relation to a glider’s behaviour in normal, practical flight. In the frame of certification, it is mandatory to achieve collapses within the marked fields. This is to ensure that the tests are comparable and classifiable. For SIV, the folding lines must be attached (these lines are delivered with the glider separately).
